Running Errands

The first week of school is over, and it was great. In my class I have 5 first graders and 9 second graders. I've never worked with first graders before and I have to say that they are adorable. They are my babies and I love their hugs and smiles. As a whole, my class is wonderful. A lot more easy-going than last year. I don't want to get ahead of myself since it has only been two days, but I have a good feeling about this class. Joe agrees that his classes thus far are a lot better than last year. He has 4 middle school math classes, and that's it. No PE, no health, no geography, no music. What do you know...a Math teacher teaching Math! Brilliant.

Since Sandra is in America to see John Mellencamp, we are staying up at her house with Merlin. So we have TV and internet. We're now caught up on True Blood, Hot in Cleveland, and The Colony. Joe even let me watch a few episodes of Say Yes to the Dress. I love TV. She also left us Tilapia and crab legs, so we're eating well too. If only we had water. The construction crew working on the school backed over the fire hydrant (yes, THE fire hydrant. I'm pretty sure there's only 1). So after the geyser of water sprayed for a while, the city shut off the water. It's been off since Friday morning, and we don't know when it'll be back on.

This morning we decided to take the four-wheeler down to the spring to fill up our water jugs (thank you Gene and Dona!) and a tote so we'd have drinking water. The spring runs all year long and the water is clean. While we were down there, we ran into our friend Jim who was on his way to cut wood by his smoke house. He gave us a little tour and we got to see his salmon smoking. We asked if we could buy some salmon strips from him in December, so hopefully we'll be bringing back a little of the local cuisine for Christmas. Be excited.

The barge also came in this morning. It appeared to be bringing in a few containers and a couple tanks of fuel. It would be nice to have a four-wheeler, but I'm glad we don't have to buy gas here. I guess it's over $6.00 a gallon.

While we were downtown we stopped in the AC to see what might have come in. It was a good produce day. As you can see, Joe was pretty excited to see the pineapples. Well, at least he was until I told him we didn't have a knife sharp enough to cut it open. We bought apples, oranges, avocado, onions, and potatoes. We were going to buy grapes and tomatoes, but they were all moldy. We left with our produce, bread, milk, some canned goods, and three 12 packs of pop. $210.00 later, we headed home.

Before I sign off, I wanted to say Happy Birthday to Joe's mom who's celebrating her birthday on Sunday, my mom who's celebrating on Wednesday, and my auntie Di who's celebrating a few days later. Wish we could be there to take you all out for margaritas. We love you and miss you!
