We're Back!

We've been home in Sitka for about a week now so I figured you all must be itching for a new blog post.  Our first few days were spent mostly unpacking and just getting settled.  Both boys had a hard time adjusting to their beds, (in fact Henry is still in our bed at the moment) and Sam was really missing his grandparents and aunt and uncles.  He was constantly in our faces asking us to play with him.  Poor kid.  He went from having an endless supply of playmates in Idaho to just mom and dad who are busy unpacking.  But now we've settled back into our routines and he's back to his usual happy-go-lucky self.  We're trying to do as much with Sam as we can before Joe goes back to work.  We're also trying to spend one-on-one time with him so he feels special.  I wish I had it on video when I took him to McDonald's to lunch without Joe and Henry.  He made it very clear to Joe that he had to stay home with Henry and that this was special Mommy and Sammy time.  Joe's also taken him out splashing in puddles around town and to the park a few times.  We've also gone to playgroup and his friend Lucas' birthday party.  He's still asking to see Cedar and Rosie most days, but they're still in Washington for a couple more weeks.

Henry had his 2 month checkup yesterday.  He's a very healthy 16 lb 11 oz and 25 1/4" long.  His head is giant and all of his stats are in the 95-100th percentile.  He was quite the charmer and flirted with all the nurses at the doctor's office.  He's like a little celebrity when we go in there.  He had to have his vaccinations which turned out to be pretty rough on the little guy.  He fussed and cried most of the morning and afternoon, and after a 4 hour nap I took his temperature and it was well over 103.  So at 9pm, we packed up and headed to the ER.  We were advised to do tepid baths anytime his fever reached 103 and to keep him on tylanol around the clock for the next 48 hours.  If an infant's temperature reaches 104, they tend to have seizures and can even suffer brain damage, so we were pretty freaked.  Luckily the nurse and doctor at the hospital were awesome and we were able to go home after 90 minutes or so.  He spiked fevers throughout the night, but has maintained a cooler temp today so I think we're over the hump.

We've pretty much had constant rain since we've been home so we haven't ventured out too much.  Well, the rain and the bears kept us inside.  The locals have been saying that this is one of the worst summers for bears that they can remember.  We've even had them come visit us at our house and get into our trash.  I guess they stop off at our street for a snack before heading down to the beach by SeaMart.  One was even causing problems at the McDonald's a few days before we got home.  All the moms at playgroup told me that they haven't gone out to any beaches or hiking trails with their little ones because the bear are just everywhere.  Super. So for now it's just playgrounds, playgroup, and our own backyard.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from the summer.

  1. So happy that you're back to blogging. I don't even have the house put back together yet but miss you all already.

Love the pictures. I don't know why we didn't all think to have a naked picnic. Sam looks so cool and relaxed. My favorite pics are the Grandpa ones -- Sam helping Pops empty the truck and Sam and Peepaw looking for Waldo -- both definitely framable.

Glad to hear that "Hangry" is feeling better. 103 sounds terrifying.

Happy that you're all home, safe and sound, but wish you were still here.

    Love, Mom

Your mom must be lonely with all of you gone.

Nothing too exciting here...we're looking forward to going camping at San Clemente in a few weeks. And looking forward to fall weather and craft projects!!! So tired of the heat...

Thanks for the great blog, and steer clear of all the bear!
