Joe with a juice box amidst the madness!
It's August 21st, and we've been back in the village for about a week now. We were in Anchorage for a few days staying with Sandra, getting shopping done, and meeting the new baby doctors. We loved the doctor's office and will be back on September 2nd for a 4D ultrasound and hopefully we'll find out if it's a little guy or gal. Our friends in Seattle had their sweet baby boy yesterday morning, and the picture they sent made me that much more excited for our baby. It won't be long before we'll be sending that picture of our brand new baby boy or baby girl at the hospital. We were weathered in Anchorage for an extra day, which was good and bad. Good because we were in town hanging out with Sandra, but bad because that was one less day we had to work in our house.

Hoarders!!!
We finally made it to St. Marys on Saturday, but there were so many teachers trying to get out that we ended up getting stuck there until 8:30. A pilot, who lives in Mountain, finally took us on his way home. I was thankful to get home, but I was not thankful for having a pilot who continuously sent text messages the whole flight. Not cool. I kept nudging Joe and pointing out his ridiculousness, but at that point, there's nothing you can do. We made it safely and even saw a bear out on the tundra.

One week later.
If you remember, our house was broken into in July, and pretty much destroyed. Our principal told us to expect the worse, and to be prepared to replace everything. They had a team of people pack up what was salvageable and take it to our new house. We stuck our key in every door until one unlocked and walked in. If you've ever watched an episode of Hoarders, you can imagine what our house looked like. Everything we owned was in trash bags or totes on the floor of our living room and kitchen. It was terrible. Since it was so late, Joe and I decided to find something to eat and go upstairs to bed. (Luckily I packed sheets and pillows in my suitcase so we'd have clean bedding) I found the totes that had random canned food, and picked out a chicken noodle soup. Unfortunately, there was no telling where any pots or pans were. I found a coffee mug and was able to heat up the soup. Then came the search for a spoon. I finally found a wooden mixing spoon that didn't quite fit in my coffee mug, but got the job done. Come to think of it, I have no idea what Joe found to eat that night. I ate my soup and went up stairs to make the bed and go to sleep. Hopefully he ate something. What a good wife I am. All day Sunday was spent working on the mess. Even after 10 hours, it was still in shambles. Every bag was a hodge-podge of crap.... a frying pan, mixed with some bed sheets, and a bar of soap. A lot of stuff had to be thrown away. Some of our clothes had had bleach poured on them, and almost everything was coated in maple syrup. I didn't even look at the bedding. It all went in the trash. We lost all of our frozen food that we had, and a lot of stuff from the pantry. Most of the canned food made it though, so that helped. We had to work all week at school and by the time we were done each night, I was ready for bed. Luckily Joe is the best husband ever and worked

each night getting totes and trash bags unpacked. Sandra came over yesterday and helped us finish up. She and Joe hauled one of the rocking recliners upstairs so I can rock the baby. They also moved all the furniture so we could vacuum. By the end of the day, the house looked pretty good. You could see the floor, get to the staircase, and it didn't smell like syrup and dirt. Very good progress.

Getting ready for baby!
School starts tomorrow, and I can't believe it! Even after working all week to get prepared, I don't feel ready. Of course the classroom is all put together and my lesson plans are done, but you never know what to expect. I only know a few of my kiddos, the rest were kindergartners last year. Plus, the majority of them are boys. I love boys, they are so much fun, but my ratio this year is waaaay off. We're outnumbered 2 to 1. One of my little tadpoles came in and helped me out today. He cleaned desks, sharpened pencils, and went on to explain how he'll remember my new name "some day." :)
Hello kids...
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you made it back to Mountain safely. Sounds like you've had your work cut out for you since you got back. I kind of like the "hoarders" photo...the place has that, you know, lived-in look.
I think of you guys every morning on my way to work while listening to "That's Rock and Roll". Can't get enough of that Shaun Cassidy. I roll down the windows and play it loud so everyone around can enjoy it, too. Joe, thank you again for indulging your mother-in-law and me at your reception and playing that song...it'll forever remind me of dancing at your wedding. It was so great to get to spend some time with you both this summer and to be in the oh-so-exclusive "circle of trust"...
Can't wait to hear the results of the ultrasound. I'm still thinking girl and have been going through my stash of pink fabrics the past few days. I'll wait tho. Maybe you got mostly boys in your class this year so you'll get a little girl at home? But then if you get a boy you could name him Nimrod. So it's ok either way.
Only 45 degrees there today huh? I think it was over 90 today so I guess we're finally getting our summer.
Got to go. Hope you're feeling good Janna...
Joe, you pamper her good OK?
Can't wait for the next blog,
