Scrotum?

Did we hear you right doctor?  Did you just say "Here's the scrotum."???  Really?  Hmm, curious.  Serves us all right for thinking it was a girl.  But no, we have a sweet little boy on the way and couldn't be more thrilled.  I have to admit, Joe and I were in a state of shock during the ultrasound when the doctor told us the news.  But after letting it sink in, and seeing that sweet little guy on the screen, there was nothing but complete and utter happiness.  Baby did not enjoy having his home poked and prodded.  I have never felt him move more than during that ultrasound.  Every time the doctor would move the probe to get a different angle, baby would kick or punch.  It was so funny to see him do it on the flat screen on the wall and feel it in my belly at the same time.  Towards the end, he even flipped completely around and laid facing my back.  He was done, and I don't blame him!  I wasn't too comfortable either!  Everything looked great according to our doctors.  The only surprises were the sex, and the fact that I'm only 19 weeks, not 20 weeks along.  Our new due date is January 27.  I thought this was great news since I should be able to work right up to Christmas break now.  This will help with my maternity leave and I won't have to miss out on all of the Christmas festivities in the classroom.

Following our doctor's appointment, Joe and I headed off for our first Babies R Us adventure.  Of course we had gone in there to shop for Parkey, but never for our own little guy.  We had so much fun.  Joe spent a lot of that time on the phone with his brother, so guess what Janna does if left alone in a baby store....she buys 1 of everything!  Ok, not quite, but we did leave with several outfits, a baby blanket, and a few toys.  We also bought a picture frame that will hold one of the sonogram pictures and has a caption underneath that says "Coming Soon."

No, we don't have any names picked out yet.  We're working on it.  We were so focused on girl names for so long that we didn't put too much effort into the boy names.  We have a handful that we like, but we're not ready to share them yet!  Our 3 year old neighbor has offered up the suggestions of Luke Skywalker and Dan.  Not sure where Dan came from.  My students are constantly coming up with names, but most of them are family names, or their own.  One little boy desperately wants me to name our baby Waskey after his Uppa.  Don't think that will happen either.  Although it's better than some of the names Joe comes up with....Bozo Ploetzner just won't cut it!

The rest of our time in Anchorage was spent shopping for food and to replace items that were damaged or stolen in the break-in.  We made the rounds- Costco, Walmart, Fred Meyers, Target, and the mall.  I spent a lot of time at the maternity store getting clothes that will fit.  Turns out I now wear a bra size I didn't even know existed.  When I told the lady this, all she said was "Well you know they're only going to get bigger when the baby comes."  Gee thanks lady.  Why don't you go and ring up my circus-freak bras and quit talking!  Needless to say, I'm getting a little bit bigger...everywhere.  After 2 days of shopping, I was pooped! We got it all packed up and shipped.  It should be here by next week.  Can't wait to get the baby stuff to wash and put away.  :)

  1. What, no picture? I thought we should all analyze it to make sure the doctor is right. Grandma says we don't make boys.

I emailed you a couple of pictures of Parker that I took today. Just so you know what you're getting into. He loves outside (also his favorite word). He loves playing in the dirt and chewing on rocks. Great for his teeth, I'm sure.

I told Jill that I'm going to buy all the clown fabric that I can find because I know that will be the nursery theme. Maybe I can find a clown ventriloquist doll for the focal point. Nightmares for everyone!!!

I'm trying to figure out a way of doing a shower over the internet. Can lot of people Skype the same person at once. Just a thought.

Keep blogging the latest news. We're all so excited for you both. Love, Mom

P.S. This is my fourth attempt at leaving a comment today. Here's hoping. . .

  2. Please don't name him Waskey. Luke Skywalker would be better than Waskey. Uncle Dennis thinks it should be a one syllable name since your last name has two syllables. So there you go. Fred or George, or Wyn. (Yes, he suggested Wyn).

Anyway congratulations! I was so sure that you were having a girl!!! We're thrilled that you're having a little boy tho, and I've already put away the pink fabrics. Do you have any sort of theme in mind, or colors? I mean other than clowns?

Got to go. Back to work tomorrow.....
